A DONEGAL senator has been charged with being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle and hit and run offences.
The case of Brían Ó Domhnaill (36), Killult, Falcarragh, came before yesterday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
Ó Domhnaill, Fianna Fáil’s Seanad Spokesperson on Agriculture, Marine & Fisheries, is charged with being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle, hit and run- failing to report occurrence, hit and run- failing to give appropriate information and hit and run- failing to remain at scene at Tullygay, Letterkenny on September 2, 2013.
Representing the defendant, who was not present in court, Solicitor, Mr John Cannon requested from Judge Paul Kelly, in Irish, to have the case adjourned until January 2015 pending a High Court case being taken by his client in relation to the Irish language.
Judge Kelly, also an Irish speaker, granted the request and adjourned the case to the sitting of Letterkenny District Court on January 19, 2015.
