Donegal secure third successive All-Ireland Darts Title

The Donegal Darts team won their third successive title at INDO Inter-Counties Championships at the INEC Arena in Killarney on Sunday night.

Donegal faced-off against Offaly in the decider at the Kerry Venue and it was a a thrilling encounter, with the defending champions running out 7-4 winners.

Donegal raced into a 4-1 lead courtesy of set wins from Cartha Boyle, Gerard McGlynn, Steven Harron and Charlie Grant.

The Leinster side pulled one back in the sixth set before Adrian ‘Butch’ Devine reinstated Donegal’s three-set cushion, making it 5-2.

Offaly continued to battle and clinched the eighth set to close the gap to 5-3.

However Ciaran McGeady responded well by grabbing the next one to bring Donegal within one set of glory.

John ‘Meencha’ Gallagher endured a tough tenth set against Brian Fletcher Jr and had a a dart to seal the silverware however, he was unable to land the double and Fletcher Jr made it 6-4.

Alan Byrne took to the oche for Donegal in the next set and when he went 2-0 down in legs, it looked like Offaly were going to close the deficit to the minimum.

However, Byrne showed great charachter and produced superb darts to reel off three legs in-a-row to land the title for a joyous Donegal side.
