They tagged on another three scores before Neil Flynn eventually got Kildare off the mark in the 24th minute.

However, Donegal upped the ante again before the break with Niall O’Donnell, Oisin Gallen, Dáire Ó Baoill and Ryan McHugh all pointing as the home side led by 12 points at the break.

Kildare needed a big start to the second half but they lost Eoin Doyle to the sin bin, before Kevin Flynn was sent off.

Donegal added three points to their tally, before Jamie Brennan hit the net in the 46th minute.

Kildare did kick four unanswered points, but Donegal responded with scores from Jason McGee and Ryan McHugh.

Donegal closed the game out in style and there were 13 points between the sides by the time of Paddy Neilan’s full-time whistle.

Bonner’s men now advance to the Division 2 League Final next weekend, and they will take on Meath, who defeated Fermanagh on Sunday.
