DONEGAL has voted Yes vote in the Marriage Equality Referendum.
Despite a tradition of voting No in recent referenda the people of Donegal has opted for same sex marriage.
In Donegal North East there was a comfortable majority of 1,548 votes with the Yes camp gaining 16,040 (52.5%) and the No 14,492 (47.5%). The official result was announced at around 4.30pm.
However, the result was on a knifedge right up to the final declaration in Donegal South West. The margin of victory for the Yes camp was just 33 votes.
It was the slimmest majority in the country. In Donegal South West 15,907 voted Yes with 15,874 voting No.
The turnout in Donegal North East was 51.4 per cent while in Donegal South West it was maginally higher at 51.56%.
