POBAL – the organisation that works on behalf of the Government to support communities and local agencies towards achieving social inclusion and development – is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
To mark this occasion, a series of events will take place nationwide to highlight the progress made in the last three decades to achieve social inclusion, equality, and community development.
The inaugural event took place last week in the Íontas Theatre, Arts & Community Centre, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan.
Representing Donegal were Domhnaill Harkin, LGBTQ+ Advocate and ShoutOut Steering Committee Member and Siobhan McLaughlin, Project Manager for Donegal Travellers Project. Both took part in a lively panel discussion during the event where the theme of the day was focused on “Enhancing Social Inclusion in 2023”.
Representatives from the early learning and care, and community and voluntary sectors joined the Pobal Board, staff and attendees for the interactive panel discussion.
Among the other guests were Gina McIntyre, CEO of the Special EU Programmes Body who spoke about the PEACE Programmes and their impact on the border communities and counties.
CEO of Pobal, Anna Shakespeare, opened the event ‘Enhancing Social Inclusion in 2023’ which included a keynote address from Bairbre Nic Aongusa, Assistant Secretary for Community Development, Department of Rural and Community Development.
