FOUR Donegal natives have helped the St Finbarr’s Gaelic Football Club in Perth to a League and Championship double in recent weeks.
Gaoth Dobhair man Paul Ó Fearraigh was captain of the St Finbarr’s team that won the Western Australia Intermediate League and Championship.
Interest in Gaelic Football in Australia has rocketed in recent years and Donegal is one of the best represented counties Down Under.
On Sunday September 1st, St Finbarr’s clinched the league with a great all round performance, defeating Southern Districts on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-04. Last Sunday, they defeated Morley Gaels in a tight and tense affair. St Finbarr’s trailed by seven points at one stage, but hit back to win 0-14 to 1-10.
St Finbarr’s is the oldest GAA club in Perth. Captain Ó Fearraigh is joined on the team by fellow Gaoth Dobhair natives Ronan Ó Duibhír and John Mac Fhionnghaile, as well as Sean MacCumhaills native James Lynch.
