Donegal player ratings against Armagh

By Ryan Ferry

Gavin Mulreany: There were a couple of wayward kick-outs but Mulreany nailed a brace of valuable two-pointers. He also made two vital saves including a penalty and was central to this triumph. 8.5

Finnbarr Roarty: Oisin Conaty was a trickier opponent than Ryan O’Donoghue last week but Roarty still stuck to him strongly and made three superb tackles. 7.5

Brendan McCole: McCole had a good battle with Oisin O’Neill who got a couple of points when drifting out the field. The St Naul’s man made a superb clearance off the line late on which was a fitting conclusion to his 100th appearance in the green and gold. 7

Peadar Mogan: Cian McConville started sharply but Mogan gradually rose to the challenge. He was composed on the ball and set up Oisin Gallen for a neat point. 7

Eoghan ‘Ban’ Gallagher: Another super performance from Gallagher who was one of Donegal’s best performers on the day. He scored a great point and was strong defensively. 8

Caolan McGonagle: The Buncrana man was a bit unlucky with the penalty as he just appeared to stand his ground. It was a game that suited McGonagle and he powered forward when he got the ball. 7

Ryan McHugh: The Kilcar man saw a huge amount of ball and Armagh never seemed to really tie him down. He dropped two efforts short but was involved in a lot of Donegal’s good play and scored a good point. 7.5

Hugh McFadden: There was an early wide for McFadden but he had a huge second half, battling brilliantly in the midfield exchanges. 7.5

Michael Langan: The St Michael’s man started superbly with a brace of two-pointers. Jarly Og Burns then took him up and chances were less frequent but he set up the goal and worked hard in the middle. 7.5

Shane O’Donnell: Plenty of work and endeavour from O’Donnell as always and he scored a timely point late in the first half. He was taken off early in the second half and had discussions with McGuinness and Dr Charlie McManus as he appeared to pick up a knock. 7

Jason McGee: A magnificent performance from Jason McGee who bossed the air. His fetching was excellent and relieved pressure while he also popped up with three points. 9.5

Ciaran Moore: It wasn’t ideal conditions for pacey players like Moore but he was able to do the dirty work on the left flank. He did roll his ankle late on which will be a concern. 7

Conor McCahill: The physicality was a step up on anything McCahill would have faced in the past and he lost the ball a few times in the tackle. However, he will learn from that and he also forced a great turnover himself and kicked two points from play. 6.5

Conor O’Donnell: Not as prevalent as he was against Mayo but still came up with some huge plays for Donegal, including the crucial goal in the second half. 7.5

Oisin Gallen: The Sean MacCumhaills man miscued two shots but he was busy and posted two good efforts. He was taken off early as Donegal continue to manage his minutes. 7

Turlough Carr: The Four Masters teenager was on the field for 23 minutes and it was a tough environment. He looked to get on the ball but dropped an effort short he would normally nail. 6.5

Shea Malone: There wasn’t a huge amount of ball that came up the field when Malone was introduced and he was turned over once but he was eager when he had possession. 6.5

Paul O’Hare: A decent cameo for the Naomh Columba man who won good 50/50 ball and worked hard in defence. 7

Domhnall Mac Giolla Bhride: Not on long enough for assessment.
