Donegal 2-19 Meath 1-13
Donegal surived a scare against Meath in the Super 8s today before running out comfortable winners in Ballybofey.
Declan Bonner’s Donegal led by 0-5 to 0-2 after ten minutes with Jamie Brennan (2), Patrick McBrearty and Michael Murphy all on the mark.
The Royals improved and they were only a point behind when James Conlon pointed in the 24th minute. However, McBrearty netted a goal seconds later to put the home side in control.
Donegal led by 1-9 to 0-8 at half-time, but Meath were the better team in the third quarter and they had a goal disallowed before Mickey Newman converted a penalty. Bryan McMahon and Bryan Menton landed quickfire points to level the sides by the 48th minute.
Darragh Campion nudged Meath ahead, but Donegal raised their game as the second half progressed and they were four ahead by the 63rd minute after points from Jamie Brennan, Oisin Gallen and Patrick McBrearty (2).
Murphy tagged on a ’45’ before Donegal killed off the game when Oisin Gallen fired to the net off his left foot.
Donegal take on Kerry in their second Super 8s game next Sunday in Croke Park.
