Donegal music star Daniel O’Donnell announces two year break

AFTER 40 years on the road, Donegal country music star Daniel O’Donnell is stepping back for a well-earned two year break.

News of Daniel’s break was first revealed in May, when the singer said the decision was prompted by health challenges he has faced in recent years, namely recurrent chest infections while touring extensively.

At that time, he promised to continue his touring commitments until December, and he fully delivered on that promise.

After first coming to the public’s attention in 1983, Daniel became a household name right across the island of Ireland, and further afield.

Throughout his successful career, he sold more than 10 million records.

Apart from performing at St Mary’s Church in his native Kincasslagh on Sunday, December 21, to support parish funds, Daniel is now officially in holiday mode.

Although he’s looking forward to spending some well-earned time at home and abroad with his family, his calendar isn’t completely empty.

Next year, Daniel will return to TG4 to host his annual Opry le Daniel shows and will also take part in the Mary From Dungloe Festival and the annual Gertrude Byrne Cruise.

Reassuring fans, Daniel emphasised that this break is not a retirement.

Content with this stage of his life, he said he’s ready to pursue his career at his own pace.
