TWO motorists in Donegal were among those nationally recorded driving at excessive speeds during the St Brigid’s Bank Holiday weekend.
This comes as gardaí carried out an enhanced Road Safety and Traffic Enforcement campaign from Thursday, January 29 until Tuesday, February 3.
During that period, 3,500 motorists were detected speeding, 193 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, 12 of them in Donegal, and almost 400 drivers were caught using a mobile phone while driving.
Two motorists from Donegal were among the notable top speeds detected over the weekend.
This comes after a driver in Bundoran was detected travelling at 95kmhr in a 60kmhr zone, while another motorist in Fahan was recorded travelling at 130kmhr in an 80kmhr zone.
Meanwhile, gardaí continue to remind road users not to drive while distracted or under the influence, to slow down, obey speed limits, and wear seatbelts.
