Donegal Masters 3-19 Louth Masters 2-6
The Donegal Masters put in a commanding performance on Wednesday as they cruised past Louth with an emphatic 3-19 to 2-06 victory at the Garvaghy Centre of Excellence in Round 3 of the All-Ireland Gaelic Masters Championship.
Donegal set the tone early, racing into a 1-8 to 0-0 lead before Louth registered their first score in the 20th minute. The opening blitz featured scores from Damian Browne, Gerard McBrearty, Brian Doherty, and Nicky McGarrigle, with McBrearty finishing a well-worked move to raise the first green flag. Paddy McNulty added a second goal before the break, leaving Donegal firmly in control.
Louth responded with three points before half-time, all from the reliable Paddy Clarke, but Donegal held a comfortable lead at the interval.
The second half saw Donegal ring the changes, giving game time to the full depth of their squad. Despite conceding a penalty goal and a quick follow-up from Louth’s Michael Durnin, Donegal never looked threatened. Gerard McBrearty capped the day with his second goal, a stylish palm finish after an impressive one-two with McGarrigle.
Stephen Coyle was outstanding throughout, adding five points to Donegal’s tally, while Damian Browne chipped in with six points, including three from frees. The scoring was well distributed, with eight players getting on the board, reflecting a superb all-round team display.
Donegal’s management team of Eddie Crawford, Paul Gallagher, Ruairí McLaughlin, and Paul Patton will be pleased with the depth and cohesion of their squad. With this win, Donegal remain firmly in contention in this year’s Masters championship and continue to show the strength and tradition of football within the county.
