Donegal man killed in Monaghan road accident

Gardai at the scene this afternoon.

 

A man from Donegal died yesterday following a single vehicle accident near Castleblaney, County Monaghan.

The deceased has been named locally as Gerry Flynn from Falcarragh.

The accident happened at Drumcrew, Castleblaney on the N2 at approximately 4pm.

A male in his 50’s was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road and collided with a wooden fence. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. His name has not yet been released. A female passenger in the car was uninjured.

The stretch of road was currently closed pending the completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions were in place.
