INISHOWEN native Phelim Kelly has been elected President of the Students’ Union in NUI Galway.
He had been the Vice-President/Education Officer for the past year.
The President co-ordinates the activities of the union and works with University management to achieve the best academic environment and quality of life for 17,500 NUI Galway students.
The President is responsible for union finances, co-ordination of campaigns and acts as its chief spokesperson.
“I have been actively involved in the Students’ Union for some time now and my experience both as a part-time officer and as the Vice President for Education will aid me greatly in my tenure as president,” he said.
“I cannot describe just how humbled I feel at the generosity of NUI Galway’s students to trust me again and elect me as their President. I am excited to get working with my team and look forward to the year ahead.”
Phelim will be joined by Rebecca Melvin who has been elected to the position of Vice-President/Education Officer and Jimmy McGovern Vice-president for Welfare. Rebecca is a native of Headford, County Mayo and a graduate of Arts. Jimmy is from Westmeath and also a graduate of Arts in NUI Galway.
