Donegal man hoping to build Ireland’s tallest snowman

SNOWMEN are popping up in parks and gardens around the country but one Donegal man is planning on breaking the record and building the country’s tallest snowman.

Kristian Shortt is planning to build the masterpiece beside the graveyard in Clar, Redcastle and is hoping to have it finished by tomorrow afternoon.

A snowman in Cork reached 11 feet however Kristian is aiming to build one reaching an impressive 14 feet and is going to call it Big Olaf the Second: Guardian of the Graves. The snowman will be called Olaf the Second because Kristian previously built a snowman reaching 13.5 feet in Letterkenny three years ago.

He is building the snowman at the fork in the road as a dedication to his late friend John McGonigle who died there two years ago. Kristian said the snowman will smile down on the spot where his friend passed away.
