The Killybegs man, who was entering his fifth year as Donegal’s Central Council Delegate, topped the poll in the ballot and was elected alongside Longford man John Greene.

The positions are elected for a three-year term alongside the President. Cavan man Aogán Ó Fearghail officially took up the Presidency on Saturday.

Erskine becomes just the second Donegal man to hold the prestigious position of Trustee, after Kilcar’s Michael Gillespie.

Erskine had 73 votes on the first count, rising to 80 on the second and he was elected on the third count, with his 97 exceeding the quota.

He was proposed for the post by the Donegal County Board after Killybegs successfully tabled his candidacy at Convention in December.

Erskine served as Chairman and Secretary of the Tir Chonaill Gaels club and was heavily involved in acquiring the lease for the club’s site in Greenford while he helped set up the Newcastle Gaels club

He has served on the London County Board and is also the Chairman of the Development Committee at his native Killybegs, while he sits on the high-powered Rules Advisory.
