A DONEGAL man has been banned from entering the North after repeatedly breaching bail conditions set by the High Court.
Joe Lynch, of St Johnston, appeared before Strabane Magistrates Court last Thursday, where the court heard he had entered the Strabane area on three separate occasions despite being prohibited from doing so.
Prosecutors told the court that he first breached his bail by travelling to Main Street in Strabane to collect a mobile phone for his daughter.
He later re-entered the area to ‘get chips’ and again to speak with someone on the street.
Deputy District Judge Kennedy noted that Lynch’s bail conditions had previously been relaxed to permit limited access to certain areas in Strabane for business purposes. However, following the recent breaches, Judge Kennedy ruled that Lynch is now barred from entering the North altogether until his next court appearance.
Lynch apologised to the court and explained that his business premises are located in the Victoria Bridge area, outside Strabane.
He assured the judge he would steer clear of the town in future.
He is due to appear before Strabane Magistrates Court again on May 9.
