Down 0-10 Donegal 1-17
Donegal picked up their second win in the McKenna Cup as they eased past Down in Pairc Esler today
Declan Bonner’s team started well and led by 0-3 to 0-1 after five minutes, but they lost their way over the next 20 minutes.
They did lift it again towards the end of the half and Martin O’Reilly, Jamie Brennan, Michael Langan, and Martin McElhinney were all on the mark as the vistiors established a 0-9 to 0-3 lead at the break.
Donegal extended their advantage out to seven before Pat Havern hit the post with a goal chance for Down.
The away side pushed on in the second half with the impressive Peadar Mogan, McElhinney and Niall O’Donnell all scoring points, before Caolan McGonagle netted a goal in the 62nd minute.
Down replied with three points in-a-row, but Donegal finished strongly with scores from Hugh McFadden and Oisin Gallen.
Donegal play Cavan in their final group game on Wednesday in Ballybofey and the winner of that game will top the section and advance to the semi-finals of the pre-season competition.
