Donegal magician predicts Sam Maguire will return to the hills

By Dionne Meehan

EARLIER this year, a Donegal magician made a bold prediction that the Sam Maguire Cup would end up in Jim McGuinness’ hands.

And after Sunday’s performance, it is a prediction that is shaping up to come true.

In March, Burtonport magician Dylan Murray bumped into the Donegal GAA manager at an event in Drumhalla House, Rathmullan.

Speaking to Jim that night, Dylan said: “Donegal are very important to both of us, and this is a trick that represents something that I hope is going to happen this year.”

Performing a card trick, Dylan presented a deck of blank playing cards to the Glenties native.

In a viral video circulating online, Dylan is seen placing a blank card between Jim’s hands, before revealing a card featuring a drawing of the Sam Maguire.

“I don’t claim to be much for an artist,” he joked.

“Sport, like magic, is an art.

“It can touch people in a very special way.

“What you believe is what it ultimately comes down to.”

As Dylan began waving the drawing of the Sam Maguire in mid-air, the drawing vanished, leaving behind a blank card.

Speaking to Jim, he said: “The reason it left my hands is because it won’t be in my hands this year.

“My hope is that the Sam Maguire will be in your hands.”

Jim opened his hands to reveal the drawing had magically appeared on his once blank card, which had been hidden between his palms the entire time.

With all roads leading to Croke Park on Sunday, July 27 for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, I think it is safe to say the entire county are hoping Dylan’s prediction comes true.
