Donegal lost out to Dublin in the Division 1 League semi-final this evening in a match that won’t last too long in the memory.

Declan Bonner’s Donegal were understrength for the encounter, as they rested players with one eye on the championship meeting with Down on June 27.

Donegal played well in the opening quarter and were 0-5 to 0-4 ahead at the water break after great scores from Patrick McBrearty and Caolan McGonagle.

Dublin powered into the match in the second quarter, and they scored 1-3 without reply. Paddy Small netted the goal while Donegal also lost Odhrán Mac Niallais to injury.

HT: Dublin 1-8 Donegal 0-7

Dublin started the second half in impressive fashion but three McBrearty scores kept Donegal in the mix.

Oisin Gallen saw a goal chance saved by Evan Comerford, and Dublin were strong when in possession. They kicked some lovely scores and were 1-14 to 0-10 ahead at the second half water break.

The contest petered out after that with both sides emptying their benches, but Donegal did get through for a goal with Eoghan McGettigan firing to the net.

An unlikely comeback was never on the cards and Dublin held on to win and they will share the league title with Kerry.
