Donegal 3-17 Westmeath 0-13
The Donegal Ladies team captured the Lidl NFL Division 2 title after they recorded an emphatic win over Westmeath in Parnell Park.
Michael Naughton’s team struggled to break down a defensive Westmeath side initially, and the sides were level at three points apiece after the first quarter.
However, an Amber Barrett goal settled Donegal, and they added four points-in-a-row. Laura Walsh did kick a late first half point for Westmeath, but Naughton’s side led by six at the interval.
Westmeath were still in contention at half-time, but Donegal drove clear in the third quarter, with Karen Guthrie to the fore, and they led by 1-14 to 0-6 after 44 minutes.
Donegal netminder Aoife McColgan pulled off a stunning save from Walsh four minutes later, and while Donegal lost two players to the sin bin in the second half, Yvonne McMonagle put some gloss on their win with a brace of late goals.
