Donegal Intercultural Platform expressed their deep sadness at the death of Irish soldier, Pte. Séan Rooney who was on peace-keeping duties in south Lebanon.
Seán Rooney, originally from Newtown Cunningham in County Donegal, died when his armoured vehicle came under fire in the village of Al-Aqbieh, and that another Irish soldier, Trooper Shane Kearney was injured in the incident.
Project Coordinator at Donegal Intercultural Platform CDP, Paul Kernan said they are sure that members of the Arab and Middle eastern communities living in county Donegal share our sadness at this tragedy, which reminds us of the onerous task Irish troops face in supporting efforts to build peace in that region.
“Several people of Arab heritage called to our Intercultural Hub today to express their sorrow at the news.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Rooney family and their friends and neighbours and to all those who know Trooper Kearney, from Cork, and hope he makes a full recovery from his injuries,” he said.
