Over recent years, former IFA County Chairman Michael Chance forged close links with the charity and pledged he would organise an event within the farming community to contribute to the work of Cancer Care West.

In recent weeks a committee has been formed to put plans in place and a number of events have been organised to take place over the coming months.
“This is a great opportunity for to raise awareness and funds to highlight the vital work Cancer Care West undertakes for Donegal cancer patients. The Cancer Care West support centre in Letterkenny provides support services for cancer patients and their families throughout Donegal,” said Mr Chance.

He continued: “Unfortunately, Donegal cancer patients must travel to Galway University Hospital for radiotherapy treatment. Whilst in Galway, Cancer Care West provides accommodation in their 33-bedroom lodge called Inis Aoibhinn. A family member can also stay. All the services that Cancer Care West provide to Donegal cancer patients and their families are free of charge. Cancer has affected many families throughout Donegal, this is an opportunity to contribute & generate much needed funds. Galway and Mayo IFA have already run successful events for this worthy charity.”

Three major events are to take place to generate funds for Cancer Care West, starting with a tractor run and Dyno Test Day followed by a BBQ on Saturday, August 24 in East Donegal. There will be an auction of donated livestock (sheep & cattle) in Ballybofey/Stranorlar mart on Friday 20th September and a final event of a buffet supper and auction of other donated goods and services will take place on Friday 18th October in the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny.

All money raised and donated will go directly to Cancer Care West to provide vital services and support in Donegal.
Farmers across Donegal, Agri-businesses and the wider agricultural community are being asked to throw their weight behind the fund-raising efforts and lend as much support as possible by way of help or contributions from farmers.
