THE HEALTH and Safety Executive (HSE) is to lodge a revised planning application for an extension to the Donegal Hospice building in Letterkenny with the local authority imminently.
The HSE had submitted an application to Donegal County Council to extend the duration of a previously approved planning permission for Donegal Hospice which expired on March 23. But the application was refused in February.
The planned extension to the existing hospice building in Knocknamona, Letterkenny is to house four additional single patient wards. Connection to the existing sewer and all associated site works are included in the application.
A newly appointed design team undertook a review of the previously approved scheme to ensure that it was in line with necessary standards, and met all identified additional needs. As a result of the review, a revised planning application was compiled to address the necessary changes to the scheme.
A HSE spokesperson this week told the Donegal News significant progress has been made in the redrafted planning application.
“The review of the previously approved scheme, to ensure the current needs of the Hospice are met, is nearing completion and it is anticipated that a revised planning application will be lodged with the Local Authority imminently.”
Donegal Hospice opened in February 2003 and has been a haven for palliative care patients and their families since then.
