Donegal homes left without power as Storm Bram hits

Hundreds of homes in Stranorlar and Bundoran have been left without power as Storm Bram hits Donegal.

More than 1,200 additional homes in the south of the county had also lost power earlier, though supply has since been restored.

ESB estimates that power in Stranorlar will be restored before 1pm tomorrow, while electricity in Bundoran is expected to return before 10pm tonight.

There have been no other confirmed outages in Donegal yet.

The electricity provider has confirmed that over 50,000 homes nationwide are without power, mostly due to fallen trees bringing down power lines.

Donegal remains under a Status Orange wind warning until 9pm tonight.

MET Éireann has advised that Storm Bram will bring very strong to gale force southerly winds veering southwesterly, with severe gusts.

Possible impacts include flooding of low-lying coastal areas, especially during high tide, wave overtopping, difficult travel conditions, debris, loose objects displaced and power outages.

Once the status orange warning is lifted, a yellow warning will remain in place until midnight tonight.
