Donegal hold firm to defeat Kerry in Killarney

Donegal picked up their second win of the league campaign with a hard-fought victory over Kerry in Fitzgerald Stadium today.

Donegal were dealt a blow early on when Michael Langan was forced off through injury but they did establish a 0-4 to 0-0 lead with Ryan McHugh scoring a two-pointer.

Kerry got on top in midfield and drew level again but Donegal were excellent late in the first half and scores from McHugh, Eoghan ‘Ban’ Gallagher, and Oisin Gallen put them in a commanding position at the break.

Kerry registered the first three points after the restart before Gallen notched a two-pointer and Ciaran Moore blasted a goal chance off the crossbar and over.

Patrick McBrearty and Ryan McHugh (2) extended Donegal’s lead out to six by the 46th minute.

However, Kerry kept going and they were back to within one when Diarmuid O’Connor goaled in the 61st minute.

Jamie Brennan and Conor O’Donnell added points for Donegal but Kerry left just one between the teams again with two minutes to go when Sean O’Shea curled over a two-pointer.

However, a late score from Jamie Brennan ensured victory for Jim McGuinness’s team.
