Donegal have ‘no room for error’ – McGee

DONEGAL selector Neil McGee says there is ‘no room for error’ from his team as they gear up for their second game against Cavan in Kingpsan Breffni today.

The Donegal team suffered their first championship defeat last week when they lost out against Tyrone.

There will be another clash against Mayo on June 14/15 in a neutral ground but Donegal really don’t want to be going into that game with no points to their name.

The top side in the group will go straight through to the quarter-finals, while the second-placed side will have a home preliminary quarter-final.

The county that finishes third will be away in the last-12 round and the team that comes last will see their season come to an end.

Donegal lost their second group game last year and still went on to reach the All-Ireland semi-final.

There is no sense of panic from McGee and his team but they will need a good performance to take down Cavan.

“There’s no room for error anymore really for us.

“We have to go again and try and make sure we get the result.

“We reacted well last year when we lost to Cork. We were disappointed that day but the response was good.

“We have to go out now and get two back-to-back performances.”

Cavan defeated Mayo by 1-17 to 1-14 in Castlebar two weeks’ ago and McGee was impressed with the Breffni side in that game.

“They are a physical team.

“We saw them against Mayo and they just got stuck into them from the very start.

“Mayo probably weren’t expecting it and Cavan were right on it from the first minute.

“I can’t see them changing now after that.

“We’re coming into their home patch and they are going to throw everything they have at us physically and we need to be ready for it.”

Today’s match will not be televised on RTÉ or streamed on GAA+.
