DONEGAL continues to have the lowest rates of children vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country.
New figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed that the Primary Course Completion rate in 5 to 11-year-olds is just four per cent in Buncrana– the lowest rate in the country.
The second lowest uptake in the country was also reported on the Inishowen peninsula, in Carndonagh, where only five per cent of children have been vaccinated.
This trend in children’s vaccine uptake can be seen across the county. The CSO figures revealed that five Local Electoral Areas (LEA) in Donegal were amongst a list of the ten LEAs with the lowest uptake in the country.
Lifford-Stranorlar had the fourth lowest uptake in the country at six per cent. Glenties, Milford and Donegal all reported a nine per cent vaccine uptake amongst children.
Commenting on the release, Steven Conroy, Statistician, said: “The Primary Course Completed rate for children aged 5 to 11 ranged from a low of four per cent in Buncrana, Donegal to a high of 56 per cent in Stillorgan, Dublin, which had not significantly changed from January 2023.”
Buncrana has also recorded the lowest rates of booster vaccine uptake in the country.
To date 37 per cent of people have received their first booster – again the lowest in the country. Booster 2 uptake in Buncrana is 13 per cent, the third lowest in the country.
