DONEGAL has among the highest number of leased stand alone car parking spaces in the country owned or rented by the Office of Public Works (OPW).
There are a total of 92 car leased standalone car park facilities in Letterkenny comprising 80 spaces at Letterkenny Government Office car park at the Department of Social Protection.
Manderlay Court car park, Office of the Revenue Commissioners, has 12 leased spaces.
The local figure is higher than that of Wexford, where there are 80 spaces, and Cork which has 73 leased spaces.
Limerick has 13 leased spaces, while Kildare has six spaces at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
The highest number of leased standalone car parking facilities is in the capital, where there are 699 leased car parking spaces.
The detail was revealed in response to a written question by Cavan-Monaghan TD Pauline Tully. She asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the locations of underground car parks and multi-storey car parks either owned by the OPW or leased by the OPW for the usage of other State agencies.
The Sinn Féin TD also sought details on the number of car parking spaces in each of those car parks; and the names of State agencies that have access to those car parks.
Responding, Kieran O’Donnell TD., Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, said the data provided only goes so far.
“The Office of Public Works provides a number of standalone car parking facilities for various government departments/offices.
“However, data is not held in relation to whether these are underground or multi-storey car parks.”
