Donegal hammer Clare and secure quarter-final spot

Clare 0-5 Donegal 2-23

It proved to be a very fruitful afternoon for the Donegal senior footballers as they hammered Clare in Castlebar, and ended up securing a quarter-final spot as Tyrone defeated Cork.

Clare hit the first point of the match but then Ryan McHugh scored a great goal for Donegal in the fifth minute.

Jim McGuinness’s men followed up with 11 points on the spin in the first half with Oisin Gallen, Patrick McBrearty, and McHugh all in good form.

HT: Clare 0-1 Donegal 1-11

Oisin Gallen bagged Donegal’s second goal in the 40th minute and Donegal were able to kick scores at their will in the second half.

Conor O’Donnell struck two points in his first appearance in almost 12 months, while Ciaran Thompson, Patrick McBrearty and Gallen all kicked some wonderful scores in a comfortable win.

Tyrone’s victory over Cork saw Donegal top the group and McGuinness’s team will now play in the All-Ireland quarter-final in two weeks’ time.
