The Gathering is a key output of the Donegal Diaspora Project and and the launch was broadcast on the website LiveTrad.com and extended a heartfelt invitation to Donegal natives living abroad to and those thinking of spending their holidays here in 2012.
Marketing Co-ordinator, Ms Sarah Meehan said the launch was a ‘massive success’ and thousands of people logged onto the live broadcast.
“We had people sending messages from as far away as Iran, Hong Kong and Australia. My own family in America were watching and said they really felt involved.”
Ms Meehan said there was a ‘great sense of togetherness in the room’ on Wednesday night.
“This is a great way of showing all the great things that are happening this year and inviting our ex Pats to come home for their holidays this years and extending the invitation to new visitors.”
One of the greatest ambassadors the county has, Clannad’s Moya Brennan performed at the launch and was also joined by some very talented young musicians.
She spoke of how she always encourages people to visit her native county where ever she is in the world.
Moya said: “There was a guy from Melbourne who came into Leo’s a few months ago.
“He had seen me in Australia and said because of the way I had spoken about Donegal in became his lifelong ambition to see the county and so came over. So talking about it definitely does work.”
