GARDAÍ in Donegal have issued a stark warning after arresting four drivers under the influence of drugs in broad daylight yesterday.
The arrests were made as part of an ongoing operation involving Letterkenny Drugs Unit and Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit.
In all, nine suspected drug-drivers have been arrested in the last week.
Inspector Harrison said it highlights the severe problem that exists on Donegal’s roads.
He said an operation on Thursday night saw four arrests being made.
“A person driving under the influence of drugs is as dangerous as someone driving under the influence of alcohol.”
Inspector Harrison warned that roadside tests are going to continue.
“The operation is ongoing and checks will continue on drivers. I appeal to road users not to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
Four drivers were detected while driving under the influence of a variety of drugs including cocaine, cannabis and benzodiazepines.
The motorists will appear before the local district court in due course.
