Donegal Gardaí and Coast Guard aim to stifle drug trade

AGAINST the backdrop of significant drug busts recently in Donegal, gardaí are seeking closer cooperation with the Killybegs Coast Guard in an effort to stem the flow of narcotics into the county.

Members of the force met with Coast Guard personnel yesterday with a view to expanding Coastal Watch in Donegal.

Last July, cocaine with a street value of €4 million washed up along the Fanad and Dunfanaghy coastline. A number of smaller drug hauls have been made by law enforcement officers since.

Led by Garda Inspector Paul McGee, gardaí are eager to promote vigilance and are asking those living in coastal communities to report suspicious activity.
