Donegal Gaeltacht hosting the MIT Europe Innovators Under 35 Festival

Gaoth Dobhair is playing host to young innovators from all over Europe who will be taking part in the MIT Europe Innovators Under 35 festival.

Many of the events are being hosted by Páirc Ghnó Ghaoth Dobhair and gteic, Gaobh Dobhair.

There will be a variety of events held over the three days, including debates, panel discussions, lectures, tours and networking events, with these young innovators giving an insight into their areas of interest and demonstrating the ways in which their work is helping to improve society, through the use of cutting -edge technology.

The MIT Innovators Under 35 has been celebrating young changemakers for more than 20 years and will also feature some of the world’s leading technologists, with biomolecular physicist Georgios Nounesis, Director of the Greek National Centre for Scientific Research, ‘Demokratis’, delivering a keynote to the final list of Young Innovators.

Along with the visiting innovators, representatives from the higher education sector, development agencies, multinational companies, local entrepreneurs and many others will be in attendance.

The focus of this year’s festival be how technology can make society a better place and help generate economic growth in areas including biotechnology and medicine, computer and electronics, hardware, software, Internet, artificial intelligence, robotics, telecommunications, nanotechnology and materials, energy, and transportation.

Today (Thursday), Údarás na Gaeltachta Chairperson, Mary Uí Chadhain, will perform the official opening of the Festival in Drioglann Chroithlí.

A series of panel discussions, lectures and networking events will be held on Friday, before the official closing ceremony and banquet in An Chúirt Hotel on Friday evening.

On Saturday, the visitors will have the chance to relax and get a taste of the beauty of the Donegal Gaeltacht, with the opportunity to climb Earagail, the highest mountain in Donegal, or to catch the waves in a surf lesson on the Donegal coast.

Údarás na Gaeltachta, in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media are proud to be the main sponsors of this event; the festival is also supported by the Northwest City Region Councils of Derry City and Strabane District Council and Donegal County Council, University of Galway, Catalyst, Randox, Optum, Ulster University, Unosquare and Atlantic Technological University. Aisling Events are the organisers of the festival.
