The inaugural Disappear Here Film Festival (Online Edition) went live this week, and runs in its virtual space for the next 3 weeks.A whopping 55 films are available to view from the comfort of your armchair, and include feature films like ‘Sorry We Missed you’ from esteemed UK Director Ken Loach. The line-up also includes many short films, documentaries and more arthouse/experimental work some shot during lockdown and in isolation. The popular physical element of the event had to be pulled at the last moment as Donegal went into higher restrictions at the end of the September.Festival Director Michael McLaughlin “Our team at the festival believe strongly in the value of culture and creativity, and we see our event as an important culture component locally, and as a continuing platform for filmmakers. We had to pull our physical event in September with less than 24 hours notice and we’ve spent the last few weeks trying to source a virtual partner to bring our programme to our audience in an on-line space.”As many events are forced online in 2020, the future seems unclear for any return to live festivals. Technology now has provided a much needed Plan B for event organisers and artists to get their work in front of an audience. With many festivals postponing or cancelling this year, Michael says they were determined to proceed as long as there was a solution open to them. “We just need people to get involved now and join us for our virtual event. What we promise is a host of great films fully curated for your enjoyment, all from the comfort of your armchair. Without our audience joining us on this online platform, this event simply won’t survive. You can check out all the films and see how to access them online via: www.disappearherefilmfest.com
