Donegal fight back to defeat Cork

Cork 1-12 Donegal 1-19

Donegal produced an excellent second half display to defeat Cork on Saturday and stay in the hunt for promotion to Division 1.

The game started at a fast pace and the sides were level at 0-3 to 0-3 after seven minutes.

Donegal spurned two goal chances early on, and Cork then kicked three unanswered points.

Declan Bonner’s men got on top and drew level, but they had a terrible ending to the half, and Mattie Taylor scored a goal and Eoghan McSweeney landed a brace as Cork led by five at the break.

Cork kicked the first point after the restart, but Donegal soon set about clawing back their deficit and they levelled when Michael Murphy scored a free in the 58th minute.

Hugh McFadden and Luke Connolly swapped points, before Niall O’Donnell registered two points.

Cork ended the game with 12 players when Ian Maguire and Connolly went off injured after they had used all their subs, and Mark Collins was sent off.

Donegal finished strongly with points from Dáire Ó Baoill and Ryan McHugh, while Jamie Brennan scored a goal.

The win keeps Donegal in contention for promotion heading into their last regulation match against Kildare next Sunday.
