Donegal’s Championship campaign came to a disappointing end at the Super 8s stage, after they were beaten by a fiercely committed and hungrier Mayo side in Elevey’s McHale Park on Saturday evening. The damage was done in the first half when Donegal were second best in almost every department, and they were fortunate to only be six points behind at the break.
Michael Murphy’s penalty brought them back into it, and Declan Bonner’s side got on top during the second half but couldn’t take advantage.
They would post ten wides in total during the second period, and six of them came in-a-row when Mayo were vulnerable. However, James Horan’s Mayo defied their critics with a dogged and disciplined performance and two late points from Andy Moran sealed their victory…
