THE Donegal ETB’s Further Education and Training Fair will be held in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Letterkenny on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 4 and 5, demonstrating their various options around the county for further education and training.
There will be a panel discussion on Tuesday between 7-9pm, targeting school leavers, their parents/guardians and school guidance counsellors.
A panel of Donegal ETB FET employees will be answering questions regarding students’ further education after their secondary education, including apprenticeships, PLC courses and tertiary degrees and traineeships.
Not only is this evening aimed at students, it’s also in the interest of employees looking to further their career and their skills.
The panel will also discuss training opportunities for employees from levels 4-6 or low-skilled workers who are considering participating in part-time training courses and upping their skill level in certain fields.
This exercise will encourage change and attempt to boost the confidence of employees considering further training.
Donegal ETB’s Director of Schools, Dr Martin Gormley, encourages students, parents and employees to attend, and be open-minded to the idea of change in training and the workplace.
“It is important that students and parents consider Further Education and Training (FET) as a possible pathway for progression. At the heart of our FET provision there are so many engaged learning opportunities,” he said.
The next day, Wednesday, March 5, the fair will be opened to everyone with an interest in the multitude of part-time education and training opportunities across the county that the Donegal ETB’s FET service provides.
This will take place from 10am-2pm that day.
Tutors and advisors will be available throughout the fair on Wednesday to discuss further opportunities for students, and guide them through their next steps including QQI, City & Guilds and industry-specific certifications.
Current ETB students will also be in attendance, and will be available to talk to anyone during the fair about anything concerning Donegal ETB FET courses.
Ciaran O’Brien, Donegal ETB’s Director of FET, said “Our service offers a comprehensive range of opportunities and qualifications.
“People should take the time on March 4 and 5 to find out how the FET service can help them go further in developing their skills through this wide range of options right here on their doorstep.”
The FET fair has been demonstrated to be a successful endeavour, with 19,000 students participating in the event last year in over 100 different venues around Donegal.
Each of these students seeking to make use of these opportunities, such as retraining, in-work experience and upskilling, progressing to higher levels of education.
