Donegal drops to eighth in latest Covid-19 rankings

THERE were 48 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Donegal this evening.
It means there have now been 510 instances of the disease across the county over the last fortnight, latest data from the Department of Health shows.
The incidence rate of Covid-19 in Donegal now stands at 320.4 per 100,000 people as it slips back to eighth behind Cavan, Meath, Monaghan, Westmeath, Sligo, Cork and Galway.
This comes as Donegal and the rest of Ireland are about to enter level 5 of the roadmap for living with Covid-19, bringing with it the toughest of measures as a bid is made to control the disease.
More than 2,400 people (2,402) were tested at testing centres on the grounds of St Conals, Hospital Campus site, Letterkenny and at old Cleary Centre building, Donegal for the week ending, Sunday, October 18.
St Conal’s testing centre has the capacity to perform up to 600 tests per day while the number for the Cleary Centre is 150 tests per day. Currently in Donegal the capacity to test exceeds the demand.
Meanwhile, as of 8pm on Tuesday, there were 19 Covid-19 patients at Letterkenny University Hospital while a further two are suspected of being infected and are awaiting test results.
Two confirmed cases and one suspected case are being treated in the Critical Care Unit.

Today’s cases, 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population and new cases in last 14 days (as of midnight 20 October 2020) (incidence rate based on Census 2016 county population)
