Donegal drivers detected speeding on National Slow Down Day

A NUMBER motorists in Donegal were detected speeding yesterday during National Slow Down Day.

The initiative, led by An Garda Síochána, the Road Safety Authority and other stakeholders, aims to promote safer driving and reduce speed-related collisions, while coinciding with the first full week of schools reopening across the country.

In St Johnston, gardaí detected two drivers exceeding the speed limit during National Slow Down Day.

One driver was detected travelling at 104km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R265, while another was caught driving at 116km/h on the same road.

Meanwhile, in Bundoran, a motorist was detected travelling 79km/h in a 60km/h zone on the R267.

An Garda Síochána conducts several high-profile National Slow Down Days each year, aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of speeding.

These operations serve to remind motorists of the serious risks associated with excessive or inappropriate speed, promote greater compliance with speed limits and support efforts to deter and detect dangerous driving behaviours.
