Donegal drivers caught speeding on National Slowdown Day

A Donegal motorist has been caught driving at 113km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N15 in Drumnagahan, as part of a nationwide clamp down on speeding for National Slowdown Day.

The operation, led by An Garda Síochána in collaboration with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other key stakeholders, is taking place today, Wednesday April 9, and runs for 24 hours from midnight to 11:59 PM.

At the halfway mark of the operation, An Garda Síochána, utilising both Garda personnel and GoSafe mobile and static safety cameras, has detected a total of 350 vehicles travelling in excess of the posted speed limits nationwide.

An Garda Síochána conducts a number of high profile National Slow Down Days every year.

The aim of National Slow Down Days is to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding, encourage a national conversation on the impact of speeding, to increase overall compliance with speed limits in place nationwide and to deter and detect those that are intent on driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.
