DONEGAL have been drawn away to Derry in the 2014 Ulster Senior Football Championship quarter-finals.

The draw for next year’s provincial championships were made this evening at Croke Park.

Donegal have been given a short away trip to Celtic Park and a reunion with former Tir Chonaill boss Brian McIver, who has the reigns of the Sperrins.

Derry will be playing in Division 1 in 2014, with Donegal in Division 2.

Donegal defeated Derry in the Ulster final in 2011 and in 2012 Jim McGuinness’s team got the upper hand in a quarter-final at Ballybofey during John Brennan’s term as Derry boss.

The draw has been fairly kind to Donegal. Although a tricky assignment at the compact Celtic Park is in store, Donegal have avoided the preliminary round while the other side of the draw contains Monaghan, Tyrone and Down – Donegal’s three opponents from the 2013 Ulster SFC.

2014 will be the first time since 2005 that Donegal will not play an Ulster SFC game in Ballybofey, with the previous eight years seeing a provincial Championship tie held at Sean MacCumhaill Park.

Donegal and Derry have met in 24 previous Ulster Championship matches. Each county has won eleven games apiece with two games finishing in a draw.
