The countdown is on to the announcement of the winners of the Outsider People of the Year Awards (2024).
Outsider.ie announces a list of more then 90 nominees for its annual People of the Year Awards.
These awards celebrate ordinary, yet extraordinary, people that have achieved amazing feats on the Irish outdoor and adventure scene in 2024. The awards are supported by title sponsor Sport Ireland.
Donegal is dominating Some of the amazing nominees including Jennifer Doherty. The 38-year-old who is blind, succeeded in summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, just a year after conquering Ireland’s seven highest mountains.
“The guides never treated me any differently because I’m blind—they let me feel my way around the rocks and climb as independently as possible,” she says. Her biggest takeaway? “Enjoy the whole expedition, not just the summit.”
Also nominated is Jason Black Mountaineering: Outdoor Provider Of The Year. A professional guiding company that leads expeditions in Ireland and internationally, Jason Black Mountaineering has had an incredible year. Highlights include the Ireland 7 Summits Series, the 4 Peaks Challenge, which successfully raised over €70,000 for charity, and multiple successful trips to Kilimanjaro, Toubkal and Ama Dablam.
Also nominated is Caitlín O’Donnell – @discoveringdonegal: Outdoor Creator of the Year. Caitlín O’Donnell’s page is a fantastic source of inspiration to hop in the car and go on an adventure. She encourages her audience to explore the beauty of Donegal and beyond by documenting her own outdoor adventures.

These incredible folk and their fellow nominees will be feted at Outsider’s 10th annual awards ceremony which take place on Thursday, February 27 2025 in the Sugar Club, Dublin. The awards are supported by title sponsor Sport Ireland.
Awards on the night will be handed out in the below categories. These awards will be chosen by a panel of judges: Outsider Woman of the Year sponsored by Sport Ireland, Outsider Man of the Year sponsored by Salewa, The Olly O’Neill Most Inspiring Person Award sponsored by Craghoppers, Outsider Youth of the Year, Diversity/Inclusion Award sponsored by Sport Ireland, Most Devoted to the Outdoor Scene supported by Sustainable Tourism Network, Eco-Hero Award – Volunteers sponsored by Craghoppers, Eco-Hero Professionals and Companies supported by Sustainable Tourism Network, Other awards that will also be presented on the night are currently being voted for by the readers of Outsider magazine and Outsider.ie. These categories comprise: Outdoor Content Creator, Outdoor Event of the Year, Audience Choice Award, Best Outdoor Escape/Provider
