Donegal designers crafting the spirit of Christmas

While many seasonal events have been postponed this year, a group of Donegal designers is determined to ensure the magic of Christmas prevails. This weekend, Donegal Designer Makers will host its ‘Christmas Presence’ annual Craft and Design Fair at Rathmullan House from Thursday, 3rd to Sunday, 6th December from 11am – 5pm.

The group has worked closely with the team at Rathmullan House to ensure all social distancing and protective measures are in place to keep visitors safe throughout the weekend.

Christmas fairs offer the perfect opportunity to support local and stock up on unique hand-crafted gifts. Each year, this Craft and Design Fair presents a beautiful selection of gift ideas and stocking fillers for every type of budget including handmade ceramics by Anna Kee, Brian McGee, and Emer O’ Sullivan.

Michelle McCarroll–Neale of Mi-chelle.ie is one of the designers taking part in the event: “With everything that has happened this year, we are delighted that our “Christmas Presence Craft and Design Fair” will take place this weekend” says Michelle.

“Family and friends can still come together – at a distance – to meet the makers, and experience the sights, sounds and smells of the festive season in the beautiful surroundings of Rathmullan House. You’ll find beautiful gifts that all the family will treasure, and by shopping local, you’ll also be supporting Donegal creators and jobs in the county.”

Mark Wheeler of Rathmullan House says the event has become a firm favourite in the seasonal calendar: “Rathmullan House has been home to this unique Christmas Market since it began in 2011” Mark says. “And while we’ve had to introduce some changes to the layout this year, we are blessed to have the space to cater for ample social distancing; we’re utilising the gardens and outdoor space a bit more, which will add to the Christmas magic and unique charm of this event.”
