A STUDENT from Donegal has been selected amongst the five finalists to showcase their design at this year’s Alfa Romeo UK and St Andrews Charity Fashion Show and claim the 2012 Young Designer Award.
Oliver Doherty from Ballyharry, just outside Culdaff, is a final year fashion and textiles student at the North West Regional College in Derry.
He couldn’t believe it when he made it to the final five shortlist for the awards from hundreds of applications from around the UK to compete in the finals of the Alfa Romeo Young Designer Award at this year’s 20th annual St Andrews Charity Fashion Show.
The chosen candidates, whose collections have already been photographed in picturesque settings on the outskirts of St Andrews, will now present their creations later this month to a panel of fashion experts, before getting the chance to show off their designs on the catwalk of the UK’s largest student-run fashion show.
The winner will not only be crowned the 2012 Alfa Romeo Young Designer but will also receive £1,000 in prize money and funding to produce an item of clothing for chosen charity The Muir Maxwell Trust, which offers support to children with severe epilepsy.
The public will also play an important part in deciding who should win the prestigious award – with visitors to www.facebook.com/alfaromeouk being able to vote for their favourite finalists’ designs.
