THE political establishment in Donegal is reeling this morning as supporters of two key constitutional changes faced crushing defeat at the weekend, with the county delivering the biggest No-No vote in the country.
84% of voters in Donegal rejected the Care Referendum, while an overwhelming 80% said no in the Family Referendum.
This resounding rejection, the highest in the country, echoes through the corridors of power, with Cavan-Monaghan, Laois-Offaly and Mayo closely trailing behind Donegal’s results.
Out of 123,452 eligible voters in Donegal, only 40% showed up.
Among them, 41,030 said no to the Care Referendum, with just 7,834 saying yes.
Meanwhile, 39,181 rejected the Family Referendum, while only 9,669 supported it.
