Donegal got off to a good start, kicking the first through scores through Conor O’Donnell and Finnbarr Roarty before Sean O’Shea responded with a two-pointed free for the visitors.

The contest’s next six points were shared, with Finnbarr Roarty, Ciaran Moore and Peadar Mogan finding the target for the hosts while Tony Brosnan landed three (one two-pointer) for the visitors.

Conor O’Donnell soon converted his second score of the afternoon from a close range free before The Kingdom hit three consecutive scores courtesy of Tony Brosnan (two-pointer) and Sean O’Shea to gain a two-point advantage.

However, Donegal responded well as Gavin Mulreany landed a 30th minute 45′ before finding the back of the net through Daire Ó Baoill.

This was quickly followed up by two successive scores via Conor O’Donnell and Peadar Mogan to leave the reigning Ulster champions four to the good at the break.

Jim McGuinness’s side made a flying start to Act two as Michael Langan fired over two attempts from outside the arc in the early stages before Finnbarr Roarty added his third point of the contest to stretch their lead to nine.

The Munster men continued to rally hard in the second stanza and a number of two-pointed frees from Sean O’Shea helped them to narrow the deficit.

However, Donegal kept the scoreboard ticking, with the returning Oisin Gallen and Michael Murphy getting their name on the scoresheet after their arrival.

As we entered the closing stages, Donegal’s lead was cut to three points as Donagh O’Sullivan landed a major for the visitors.

Although it would be as close as they’d get as a point from Michael Murphy late on sealed the win for Jim McGuinness’s side.
