Donegal Daddy’s take on Brit Awards outfit goes viral

SAM Smith’s inflatable latex suit might have been the talk of the red carpet at this year’s Brit Awards but closer to home a Donegal man has put his own spin on the outfit.

Micheál Brennan, aka Donegal Daddy, recreated the designer latex suit for a fraction of the price using something nearly everyone has at home.

With the help of his wife, Micheál recorded himself putting on an outfit made out of bin bags before his wife kindly inflated his costume with a hairdryer.

Racking up a total of 1.9 million views online, it wasn’t long before Micheál was getting contacted by the Lorraine Kelly breakfast show on ITV.

Speaking to the Donegal News, the content creator said when he saw the outfit he thought it looked like a fart in a wetsuit.

“I began thinking about what it was like getting into that outfit or who dressed him.

“That is where the idea for my video came from because I just thought it had to be weird and awkward for whoever put him into the outfit,” he said.

Micheál, who has been creating content since March 2020, started posting videos of day to day life with his daughter Gracie in a bid to make people laugh.

He said all the videos he uploads are a bit of craic.

The night after Micheál’s video went viral he received a message from what he thought was a scam account called ‘Good Morning Britain Archive’.

The account messaged the dad of two asking if he would be happy for them to use his video on the ‘Lorraine’ show.

Still convinced it was a scam, Micheál agreed and forgot about it.

That was until he seen the highlights on the show the next morning.

“I just watched on, they started talking about Sam Smith and the next thing there I was,” he said.

On the show, Northern Irish presenter Christine Lampard was joined by her guest Lucy to discuss how Sam Smith’s outfit left fans divided.

As the video rolled, Lucy said Micheál’s look was absolutely genius.

“A dad tried to recreate the look in his own home with bin bags which I thought was absolutely genius,” she said.

Christine agreed with Lucy saying “people are just genius when it comes to recreation”.

Micheál’s bin bag outfit might not be designer, but it received high praise.
