SHAUN Kelly, the Lifford man killed in a crash on St Stephen’s Day, will be laid to rest on Sunday.
Mr Kelly died when his car struck a tree near Porthall. A father-of-two, the 33-year-old was the sole occupant of a blue Vauxhall car which left the road between Porthall and Rossgier at around 12.30am. There was no other vehicle involved in the crash.
Mr Kelly was initially treated at the scene by ambulance personnel before being taken to Letterkenny University Hospital in a critical condition. He later passed away from his injuries.
Councillor Gerry Crawford is from Porthall and knows the victim’s family.
Councillor Crawford said, “A tragedy such as this is terrible at any time of year but it is particularly difficult to absorb when it occurs around the Christmas period.
“This young man’s death has created a sense of sadness and shock in a community where he has a wide family circle and where the families are well known.
“What has happened here has cast a shadow over this area and I have no doubt the community would join me in sending their sympathies and prayers to the whole family circle.”
Mr Kelly is survived by his sons Kelvin and Ryley, parents Rosemary and Michael and brothers and sisters Stephen, Leon, Michelle, Michael and Tegan.
His remains will be reposing at his home, 42 Beechwood Grove in Lifford, from 7.30pm this evening. Funeral leaving his home on Sunday at 12.40pm for Mass in St Baithin’s Church, St Johnston, at 1.30pm. Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Deeply regretted by his sorrowing sons, mother, father, brothers, sisters and family circle.
