AN Omagh hotel has received several enquiries from Donegal couples who are eager to move their wedding to the North due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
Currently, only 50 people are allowed to attend a wedding reception in Donegal, while in the North, venues are risk assessed on the number of guests permitted and are able to hold bigger crowds.
As a result of the differing restrictions, the Silverbirch Hotel in Omagh has been contacted by several Donegal couples who want to move their big day to the hotel to accommodate a bigger guest list.
Sales, Conference and Events Manager of Silverbirch Hotel Michaela McBride explained, “We have had quite a number of enquiries from people in Donegal who are hoping to move their wedding to our hotel due to the restrictions.
“We even have enquiries for dates in early 2022, so it looks like people are trying to move to the North for the foreseeable.
“We are working on a building risk assessment basis and we are allowed to have 220 guests at the wedding receptions, while in normal times, our Drumragh Suite can cater for up to 400 guests.
“People in Donegal are definitely reaching out to us since we reopened and the restrictions have eased.
“Last year, we were open from July to October and we had a number of weddings which had transferred from southern venues,” said Ms McBride.
The increase in the number of weddings moving to the Omagh hotel has been welcomed as a boost to the business after months of closure.
“Since we reopened this year, we have been extremely busy.
“Every weekend we have two or even three weddings booked in so it is a nice boost for us to be able to accommodate couples for their special day,” said Ms McBride.
