DONEGAL County Council is pleased to announce that this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge will be launched at Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí in Donegal Town on Thursday at 11 am.
Music, entertainment and refreshments will be provided on the day.
Cathaoirleach of Coiste na Gaeilge, Donegal County Council, Cllr Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig, will officially launch Seachtain na Gaeilge in Donegal.
Members of Coiste na Gaeilge alongside representatives from Rannóg na Gaeilge and the Library Service will also be in attendance.
This festival, which promotes the use of the Irish language in Ireland and abroad, is the greatest celebration of our language and culture.
The festival offers people the opportunity to enjoy Irish language events that cater for all language abilities – from native speakers and learners to those ‘le cúpla focal’.
Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí is an all-Irish primary school that was established in 1999 to meet the demand for primary education through the medium of Irish in Donegal Town.
The school has gone from strength to strength since then, thanks to the group of parents and Gaeil who had a vision back then.
The school community was without a permanent premises until last year when they moved into their new school building.
The school plays a central role in the preservation and strengthening of the Irish language in Donegal Town – a town that is currently in the process of language planning.
Seachtain na Gaeilge will take place internationally from March 1 to 17, 2026 and an extensive programme of Irish language events has been organised by Rannóg na Gaeilge and the Library Service in Donegal County Council and by other community groups throughout county.
Among the events taking place will be a Gardening workshop with Deirdre Ní Bhraonáin, a World Book Day celebration with Myra Zepf and Mr Anto, a Computer Science workshop for children, the stand-up comedy show ‘Gaelgháirí’ and Conversation Circles in some of the Public Service Centres.
People are encouraged to participate in the celebration regardless of their Irish language ability.
